Article: Section 11 Children Act 2004 Responsibilities
Section 11 of the Children Act 2004, places a
duty on key persons and bodies to make arrangements to ensure that
in discharging their functions, they have regard to the need to
safeguard and promote the welfare of children
The legislation sets out the responsibilites of the local
authority, partner agencies and other relevant bodies in
relation to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and
young people
In 2008 Barnsley Safeguarding Children Board invited all
relevant agencies to complete a self assessment of the extent to
which their services complied with the Section 11
requirements. This self audit has been periodically refreshed
since that time and has ben reviewed again in late autumn
2013. To provide necessary assurance of compliance to the
Safeguarding Board each completed submission was subject to
a challenge event in February and March 2014, led by the Board
Chair.
