Article: Information for GPs

"Safeguarding is everyone's business" and GPs have a particularly vital role.

The NSPCC in conjunction with the Royal College of General Practitioners has issued this Toolkit specifically designed to assist GPs in undertaking their safeguarding responsibilities for children and young people in their care

The Designated Doctor at the Acute Trust in Barnsely has summarised learning derived from the Daniel Pelka Serious Case Review

This guidance for GPs, developed by the Designated Nurse, Safeguarding, provides useful information about signs and symptoms together with a useful flowchart

Reporting to Child Protection Conferences

It is important that GPs provide a written report to child protection case conferences.  To ease the administrative burden , the Named Dr at the CCG has developed an electronic form that will load onto a Practice's electronic system and self populate.

The form can be filled in from the GP records or, if appropriate, a nil return can be sent with 'No relevant information in the records'.

Instructions for loading the report form have been circulated to all GP practices.  A generic copy is available here.
