Article: Welcome to Barnsley Safeguarding Children Board Website
If you work with children and young people, you'll want to do
whatever you can to make sure they're looked after properly, kept
safe and protected from harm. Whether you're a teacher, social
worker, health practitioner, a volunteer, or work in any other
field with children and young people in the borough, we hope
you find the information on the site useful.
If you're a parent or carer looking for advice about
keeping your family safe, take a look at our 'parents and carers'
pages.
If you're a young person worried about your own or another young
person's safety, we've included some useful links to a range of
support services who will listen to your worries and help you get
things sorted out. Just click on the 'children and young people'
tab on your left.
For anyone who is concerned about a child or young person
and needs someone to talk to, just follow the advice on
our 'What to do if you are worried about a child page'.

Following an Ofsted inspection in 2012 of our Safeguarding and
Looked After Children's Services we have now been inspected again
in June 2014. The
judgement of our services, including for the first
time the Safeguarding Board, has moved from 'inadequate' for
child protection services and 'adequate' for looked-after children
services to an overall judgement of 'requires improvement' (the
replacement judgement for 'adequate). The experiences
and progress of care leavers was judged as 'good'. This
change reflects the strong progress we have made on our
improvement journey to secure the improved judgement
Following the June 2012 Inspection Barnsley Council was
issued with an Improvement
Notice. This Notice includes details of the
actions that the Council must take to improve the overall
effectiveness of Barnsley's Safeguarding Children's Services and
better protect children.
In response to our original Ofsted judgment and Improvement
Notice we developed a Safeguarding Improvement Plan which
impacts on the work of Children and Young People's Services and all
of our partner agencies who work together to safeguard children.
This Plan has now evolved into a Continuous Service
Improvement Plan as we seek to consolidate and embed the
improvements to services that we have introduced over the past two
years.
